Este dispositivo cilíndrico se introduce en el mandril de cartón de una bobina grande de papel en una rotativa. Al inflarse con aire comprimido, unas cámaras de aire internas empujan las chavetas de sujeción hacia fuera, bloqueando firmemente la bobina al eje. Esto permite que la rotativa desenrolle la pesada bobina de papel a gran velocidad sin que patine, y se puede desinflar rápidamente para realizar cambios rápidos de bobina.
