Soffietta

nounStandard termCeramics & Glass

A specialized blowing tube used to re-inflate a glass vessel after it has been transferred to a punty.

A glassblowing tool consisting of a curved metal tube attached to a conical nozzle. Once a piece is transferred off the blowpipe and its mouth is opened, the glassmaker inserts the nozzle to seal the opening and blows through the tube. This allows the maker to expand the body of the vessel late in the forming process.
