A shallow vat used to evaporate excess water from clay slip.

A large, wide container used in traditional pottery production to dry liquid slip down to a workable, plastic clay consistency. Historically placed outdoors to utilize solar evaporation, these vats are sometimes equipped with artificial heating elements in indoor factory settings to speed up the dewatering process.
