Tarp

verbShop talkAsphalt

To cover a loaded haul truck with a tarp to hold in heat and keep the mix from crusting over.

To pull a cover over a loaded asphalt truck before it leaves the plant and leave it on until the truck is backed up to the paver. A good tarp keeps a crust from forming on top of the load and holds heat on long hauls and cool days. Many specs require tarping every load regardless of weather, and inspectors reject loads that arrive uncovered with a cold crust.

Heard on the job
