Dragged, open texture in the mat behind the screed, appearing in streaks or across the full width. Common causes are a screed not yet hot at startup, mix too cold or too coarse, paving too fast, worn screed plates, or a large stone caught under the screed edge. Torn areas will not seal under the rollers, so crews fix the cause and hand-work the spots while the mat is still hot.
