What paving crews, drivers and inspectors call the asphalt plant. The word separates it from the ready-mix concrete plant and the crusher on shared quarry sites, and calling the hot plant is how a foreman orders more trucks, a temperature change or a mix adjustment. Plants usually fire up an hour or more before paving starts to bring the drum and silos up to temperature.
Call the hot plant and tell them to hold the last five loads, rain's ten minutes out.
