Baghouse

nounStandard termAsphalt

The fabric-filter dust collector that cleans the exhaust from an asphalt plant's dryer.

The plant's main emission control, a housing full of fabric filter bags that catch the dust carried out of the drum by exhaust gases before they reach the stack. Pulses of compressed air knock the dust cake off the bags into hoppers, and the collected fines are usually metered back into the mix or wasted. Baghouse temperature has to stay above the dew point to keep bags dry and below the fabric's limit, and returned fines affect VMA and dust ratio directly.

Heard on the job

Baghouse temp's sitting at 230, if the RAP gets any wetter we'll be blinding bags by lunch.
