Roll defect in which wound layers slide sideways so the roll end pokes out like an extended telescope.

It happens when the layers have too little friction or winding tension to hold together, or when rolls are dropped or stacked badly. Slippery, lightweight fabrics and narrow pancakes are especially prone. Telescoped rolls feed badly on converting lines and are often rejected outright.
