Mother roll

nounShop talkNonwovens

Full-width roll wound at the end of the production line, before it is slit into customer rolls.

The line winder builds mother rolls at full trim width, often several meters wide and many kilometers long, on steel shafts or heavy cores. Each mother roll gets an ID that links its quality data to every slit roll cut from it. Defects found later are traced back to the mother roll, the position across it and the time it was made.
