Doff

verbShop talkNonwovens

To take a finished roll off a winder and start winding on a fresh core or shaft.

On the line winder, a doff transfers the web to a new shaft, cuts it and takes the full mother roll off, ideally without slowing the line. On slitters, doffing means unloading the full set of slit rolls. Fast, clean doffs cut waste and wrinkles at the start of each roll.

Heard on the job

Doff the winder at 6,000 meters, then walk the roll over to the slitter.
