verbShop talkTextiles

To remove full bobbins, cones, or processed fiber from a spinning frame or carding machine.

Doffing is the mechanical or manual process of stripping accumulated textile fibers from a machine. In spinning, it means taking off the full bobbins of spun yarn and replacing them with empty ones so the machine can continue running. In carding, it refers to the removal of the combed fiber web from the main cylinder using a smaller doffer cylinder. It is a critical, time-sensitive step in mill production to keep machinery operating continuously.
