Griff

nounStandard termTextiles

A lifting mechanism in a Jacquard loom that catches and raises specific warp threads.

A framework of parallel lifting blades or bars used in a Jacquard loom mechanism. As the griff moves up and down, its blades catch the hooks that have been selected by the pattern cards, raising the corresponding warp threads to form the shed for complex figured weaving.

Heard on the job

Check the griff blades on loom four; one of them is bent and it's dropping warp threads on the complex damask pattern.
