Lazy Kate

nounStandard termTextiles

A rack that holds multiple bobbins of spun yarn under tension for plying.

This spinning accessory consists of a frame with metal rods or dowels that hold two or more bobbins horizontally or at an angle. A tensioning band often runs across the bobbins to prevent them from spinning too freely and causing the yarn to tangle. Spinners use it to feed single strands evenly into the spinning wheel when creating a plied yarn.

Heard on the job

Put those three bobbins on the lazy Kate and set the tension band before you start plying.
