A pfleiderer is a heavy-duty industrial shredder equipped with serrated blades, used primarily in the viscose rayon manufacturing process. It mechanically tears sheets of alkali cellulose into fine, fluffy crumbs. This shredding maximizes the surface area of the cellulose, ensuring it reacts evenly with carbon disulfide in the subsequent xanthation stage to create a uniform spinning solution.
