Pressing cloth

nounStandard termTextiles

A piece of fabric placed between an iron and a garment to prevent damage.

A protective layer of heat-resistant fabric, usually cotton or silk organza, laid over a garment during ironing. It prevents direct contact between the hot iron plate and the textile, stopping scorching, melting, or the formation of an unwanted shiny glaze on wool and synthetics.

Always use a pressing cloth on this gabardine or you'll ruin the nap with iron shine.
