Race

nounStandard termTextiles

A flat ledge on a loom that supports the shuttle as it travels across the warp.

The horizontal track or ledge built into the sley of a loom, situated just in front of the reed. It provides a smooth, continuous surface for the shuttle to slide across as it carries the weft yarn through the open shed. Keeping this surface smooth is critical to prevent the shuttle from snagging warp threads or flying out of the loom.

Heard on the job

Check the race for splinters, the shuttle keeps catching on the left side.
