Section beam

nounStandard termTextiles

A wide cylindrical roller used in weaving preparation to hold a portion of the total warp threads.

In warp preparation, a section beam collects parallel yarns from the creel to build up a fraction of the total required warp density. Multiple section beams are later combined onto a single weaver's beam during the slashing process. This intermediate step allows mills to handle massive thread counts without needing a single, impractically large creel.

We need to wind four section beams of the blue cotton before we can run them through the slasher.
