Shaft

nounStandard termTextiles

A loom frame that holds heddles to control the lifting of warp threads.

A rectangular frame on a loom that suspends the heddles. Warp threads pass through the heddle eyes, and when the loom mechanism raises or lowers a specific frame, it separates the warp to create the shed for the shuttle to pass through. The number of frames dictates the complexity of the weave structures possible.
