Simple

nounStandard termTextiles

A system of cords used on a traditional drawloom to control pattern heddles.

A vertical arrangement of cords tied to the tail cords of a drawloom, allowing the weaver or drawboy to select and lift specific warp threads to create complex figured patterns. Pulling the simple cords raises the corresponding harness shafts.

Heard on the job

The drawboy needs to pull the simple down sharply to ensure a clean shed for the next pattern row.
