Embossing

nounStandard termNonwovens

Pressing a raised or recessed pattern into a nonwoven with engraved, usually heated, rolls.

Embossing changes texture, bulk and appearance: it gives wipes a quilted look, raises apparent thickness and improves grip and cleaning. It can be combined with thermal bonding in one nip or done later on a converting line. Pattern depth, temperature and pressure are balanced so the fabric keeps enough strength and does not turn harsh.

Heard on the job

Embossing on the floor wipe is too shallow, the customer says it doesn't pick up crumbs.
