Point bonding

nounStandard termNonwovens

Calender bonding with an engraved roll that fuses the web only at small, regularly spaced points.

Raised lands on the engraved roll press the web against a smooth anvil roll, creating bond spots that typically cover 10 to 25 percent of the surface. Fibers between the points stay free, which keeps the fabric soft and drapeable while the points carry the strength. Point shape, size and spacing are chosen to balance strength, softness, fuzz and appearance.
