A hoisting or hauling rope that has lost its tension, creating a hazardous loop or sag. In vertical shaft systems, a slackline occurs when a cage or skip gets hung up on the guides while the hoist continues to pay out rope. If the conveyance suddenly breaks free and drops, the resulting snap can sever the cable.
