Lagre

nounStandard termCeramics & Glass

A flat sheet of glass used as a base for flattening blown glass cylinders.

A large, thick sheet of glass placed inside a flattening oven. In the traditional broad glass or cylinder blown sheet process, the glassmaker splits a blown cylinder and lays it on the lagre, where the heat causes it to unroll and flatten into a window pane.

Heard on the job

Make sure the lagre is perfectly clean before we start flattening the cylinders, or every speck of dust will pit the sheets.
