Rep

nounStandard termTextiles

A durable, tightly woven fabric featuring prominent horizontal ribs or cords.

A heavy, plain-weave fabric characterized by distinct transverse ribs across its surface. The ribbed effect is achieved by using significantly thicker yarns in the weft than in the warp, or by weaving multiple weft threads together in the same shed. It creates a stiff, highly durable material frequently used for upholstery, academic regalia, and structured neckties.
