Rot-steep

verbShop talkTextiles

To soak cotton goods to break down and remove natural impurities.

An older preparation process where cotton fabrics are soaked in warm water to induce mild fermentation. This breaks down sizing starches, natural waxes, and pectins, making the fabric easier to scour, bleach, and dye evenly.
