RFD stands for ready for dyeing. It refers to greige goods that have gone through all necessary preparatory processes, such as desizing, scouring, and bleaching, but have not yet been colored. Textile manufacturers buy RFD fabrics when they want to apply custom colors or prints in-house without dealing with the raw, uncleaned state of the material.
The new batch of cotton jersey is RFD, so we can send it straight to the dye house for the spring colors.
RFD goods often look white or off-white because they have been bleached to ensure the final dye color takes evenly without interference from natural fiber impurities.
