Flatlock

nounStandard termTextiles

A specialized machine stitch that joins two pieces of fabric edge-to-edge without overlapping bulk.

A complex, multi-thread stitch that sews two raw edges of fabric together so they butt up against each other rather than folding into a traditional seam allowance. This creates a highly stretchable, low-profile seam that lies perfectly flat against the skin. It is the industry standard for athletic wear, base layers, and wetsuits where a raised seam would cause chafing.
