A highly durable, flat seam that completely encases all raw fabric edges.

A construction method where one seam allowance is trimmed short, and the longer opposing allowance is folded over it and stitched flat to the garment. This traps all raw edges inside the fold, making the seam completely fray-proof and exceptionally strong. It is the standard structural seam for heavy-duty garments like jeans, workwear, and outdoor gear.

Do not mix it up with

  • French seam: A French seam also encloses raw edges, but it hangs loose inside the garment, whereas a felled seam is stitched flat against the fabric.
