The fold or buckling of fabric that occurs at the bottom of a pant leg when it rests on the wearer's instep. Tailors measure this as a full, half, quarter, or no break, depending on how much excess length is drafted into the inseam.
Pin the hem for a medium break, just enough so the front rests on the laces without pooling.
A 'full break' features a deep crease and covers the shoe laces, while 'no break' means the trouser hem grazes the top of the shoe without folding.
