Guck

nounShop talkShop Slang

Any unidentifiable, sticky, or foul-smelling sludge encountered during maintenance.

Guck describes the nasty, viscous residue that accumulates in sumps, drains, and enclosed mechanical spaces. It is typically a mixture of degraded lubricants, moisture, dirt, and chemical byproducts. Technicians use the term when they encounter an unpleasant, messy substance that requires heavy degreaser and shop rags to clean before actual repair work can begin.

Heard on the job
