Dead stand

nounStandard termForestry

A patch of forest where the majority of the trees have died but remain standing.

An area of forest composed entirely or primarily of standing dead timber. These stands are typically the result of catastrophic events like severe beetle infestations, root disease pockets, or low-intensity fires that killed the cambium without consuming the wood. They represent a high fire hazard and a significant safety risk for loggers due to falling tops.
