Roll cage

nounStandard termAutomotive

A tubular steel frame built inside a vehicle cabin to protect occupants during a rollover.

A roll cage is an engineered structural framework installed in the passenger compartment to prevent the roof and cabin from collapsing in a severe crash. Fabricators weld or bolt these cages using high-strength steel tubing, tying them directly into the vehicle's chassis or frame. They are mandatory in professional motorsports and common in extreme off-road vehicles to ensure driver survival during high-speed impacts or multiple rollovers.
