A specialized retaining clip used extensively to secure plastic bumper covers, inner fender liners, and splash shields. It consists of a hollow expansion body and a threaded center pin; pushing the pin expands the body to lock the panels together, while turning the pin with a screwdriver allows for non-destructive removal.
Heard on the job
Half the scrivets on this splash shield are stripped out, so grab a handful of new ones from the bin.
Insider tip
Dirt often jams the threads on older scrivets, making them impossible to unscrew; mechanics usually just pry them out with a clip tool and replace them.
