Valance

nounStandard termAutomotive

Lower body panels attached below the bumper hide structural components and improve aerodynamics.

A valance panel attaches below the front or rear bumper to direct airflow, hide structural components, or improve the vehicle's aesthetic stance. Front valances often incorporate air dams, fog light housings, or brake cooling ducts, while rear valances may feature exhaust cutouts or integrated diffusers. Because they sit so low, they are highly susceptible to curb and parking block damage.

Heard on the job

You'll need to drop the front valance before you can get to the lower radiator mounts.
