Windsplit

nounStandard termAutomotive

A raised crease or styling line stamped into body panels to enhance a vehicle's visual stance or aerodynamics.

This design feature is typically a sharp, longitudinal ridge running along the hood, fenders, or beltline of a car. Originally conceived to help stabilize airflow over flat panels at speed, windsplits are primarily used by designers to add structural rigidity to sheet metal and give the vehicle a more aggressive, streamlined aesthetic.
