A long, even ridge of mix laid on the grade by belly-dump trailers driving forward with their gates open. A windrow elevator on the paver or a material transfer vehicle picks it up and feeds the paver, so the size of the row has to match what the paver consumes. Because the mix sits exposed, crews keep the windrow short on cool or windy days to avoid cold, crusted mix.
Keep the windrow no more than two hundred feet ahead, it's 50 degrees and that wind is eating the heat.
