Wane

nounStandard termWoodworking

The original rounded exterior of a log remaining on the edge of a cut board.

A defect or natural feature on a piece of lumber where the wood is missing along an edge or corner, often leaving the original bark or the curved cambium layer visible. It occurs when a board is milled too close to the outside of the log. While a defect in structural grading, it is prized in rustic furniture making.

We've to rip an inch off this board to remove the wane before edge gluing.
