An older shop term for wood that is exceptionally cooperative under hand tools. Frowey timber has a straight, consistent grain structure that yields cleanly to a plane iron or a froe. It lacks knots, interlocking grain, or wild tension, making it ideal for riving into shingles, staves, or straight moldings.
