Glue strip

nounStandard termWoodworking

A narrow scrap of wood temporarily attached to a workpiece to provide a clamping surface.

A sacrificial piece of wood bonded or tacked to the edge of a board to aid in machining or assembly. It provides a square edge for clamps to grip when joining irregular shapes, or serves as a blowout block that takes the tear-out when routing a profile. Once the glue cures or the machining is done, the strip is cut or planed away.

Heard on the job

Tack a glue strip to that angled leg so the clamp has a flat face to pull against.
