Narrow bead run straight along the joint, as opposed to a weave bead, which oscillates side to side. Stringers keep heat input low and give good control, so procedures for impact-tested steels, stainless and out-of-position work often require them, filling a groove with many overlapping beads. In pipeline talk, the stringer bead is the root pass itself.
No weaving on the impact-tested plate, it's all stringer beads, overlap them about half.
