Standard symbol built on a horizontal reference line with an arrow pointing to the joint. Weld symbols below the line apply to the arrow side and those above to the other side, with sizes, lengths, pitch and groove dimensions arranged around them. Supplementary marks include a flag for a field weld, a circle for weld-all-around and a tail carrying process or specification notes.
Flag on the welding symbol means it's a field weld, leave it off in the shop.
Arrow side goes below the line, other side above. Newcomers flip it, and the stiffener ends up welded on the wrong face.
