Any welding where gravity works against the welder: vertical, horizontal and above all overhead. Out-of-position work calls for lower current, smaller rod or wire, fast-freezing fluxes and careful technique to keep the pool from sagging or dripping. A welder who is good out of position is valued far more than one who can only run flat.
That wire runs great flat but it's terrible out of position, get me the all-position flux core for the overhead.
