Relative speed between gun and surface, set by spindle RPM and diameter for round parts and by robot or traverse speed for flat ones. With the index and feed rate it determines thickness per pass and the heat dumped into each spot. Too slow cooks the part and builds thick, stressed layers; too fast spreads each pass very thin and wastes powder at the turnarounds.
Diameter went up, so back the RPM off to hold the same surface speed or the passes go on thin.
