Particles that pass beside or bounce off the target, together with the soft, poorly bonded deposit they leave on fixtures, masks and nearby surfaces. Overspray lost to the dust collector is the main reason deposition efficiency is below 100 percent. Overspray deposits on areas still to be coated must be cleaned off, since coating over them gives weak layers.
Overspray is all over the next journal, sweep it before you start that one or the bond's no good.
