Cutting on the bias means aligning the pattern pieces diagonally across the warp and weft threads of a woven fabric. This technique gives the fabric a natural stretch and allows it to drape softly and cling to the contours of the body.
We need to cut the skirt on the bias so it flows properly over the hips.
Bias-cut garments are notoriously difficult to sew because the cut edges stretch and distort easily under the presser foot.
