GSM Interworking Profile is a telecommunications specification that bridges DECT base stations with GSM cellular networks. It translates the signaling and voice protocols between the two standards, allowing a DECT cordless handset to act as a terminal on a GSM network. This enables users to make and receive cellular calls using indoor cordless phones where mobile reception might otherwise be poor.
The enterprise PBX uses GIP to hand off incoming GSM calls directly to the warehouse DECT handsets.
