Gip
Gip turns up in 2 fields: shop slang, telecom & it. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
Gip in shop slang
To gag or retch in response to an extremely foul smell or disgusting sight.
To experience an involuntary gag reflex without actually vomiting. Workers use this term when confronted with severe workplace hazards like rancid coolant sumps, blocked grease traps or rotting organic matter. It serves as a physical indicator that a workspace lacks adequate ventilation or requires immediate biohazard protocols.
"Crack the bay doors open before you drain that old coolant tank, the smell alone will make you gip."
GIP in telecom & it
GSM Interworking Profile, a standard allowing DECT cordless phones to interface with a GSM mobile network.
GSM Interworking Profile is a telecommunications specification that bridges DECT base stations with GSM cellular networks. It translates the signaling and voice protocols between the two standards, allowing a DECT cordless handset to act as a terminal on a GSM network. This enables users to make and receive cellular calls using indoor cordless phones where mobile reception might otherwise be poor.
"The enterprise PBX uses GIP to hand off incoming GSM calls directly to the warehouse DECT handsets."
