High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data improved upon standard GSM data transmission by allowing a single user to occupy up to four consecutive time slots, dramatically boosting throughput. Unlike packet-switched technologies like GPRS, it maintained a dedicated circuit connection for the duration of the session, making it highly reliable but inefficient for bursty internet traffic. It served as a transitional technology before packet data became the industry standard.
