High Speed Uplink Packet Access is a 3G mobile communications protocol in the HSPA family. It optimizes the uplink performance of UMTS networks, allowing devices to transmit data back to the cell tower much faster. This upgrade was critical for supporting two-way applications like video calling and large file uploads over cellular connections.
