Spirit duplicator

nounStandard termPrinting

A historic copying machine that uses an alcohol-based fluid to transfer wax ink from a master sheet.

A rotary reproduction machine that forces paper dampened with a solvent against a master cylinder. The solvent dissolves a tiny layer of aniline dye wax from the master sheet, transferring the image onto the blank paper. It is famous for producing copies with a distinct purple tint and a sweet chemical smell.
